Homemade Oreos

You can find this recipe in just about any ward cook-book. It's a family favorite, so I thought I'd make sure we have a copy, too.

Cookie:
2 pkg. Devil's Food Cake
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups shortening (I've used margarine and that works fine as well).

Mix all of the ingredients. Roll into little balls. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Sometimes I put them in the freezer so they are really cold for the frosting so you don't have a mess of frosting oozing all over. Think Oreo's- you want it to set and be thick and stuck together without sliding.

Filling:
8 oz. cream cheese
2 tsp. vanilla
4-3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter

Cream together. Place a generous amount onto the bottom of one cookie. Gently place another cookie on top. These freeze very nicely. And they are so cute!
